TradeWorks Academy Receives Certification
The Council Bluffs Community School District recently presented the vision for the new trades academy to community leaders and representatives of business and industry.
The TradeWorks Academy will feature five trade areas including fabrication, mechanics, electrical, construction, and HVAC/Refrigeration. The programs will be available to students at Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson High Schools, beginning in the fall of 2019, with some of the academy experiences available immediately to students.
“The TradeWorks Academy is a unique opportunity for freshman and sophomores because it is all about generating exposure and excitement for students in their first two years of high school,” said Dr. Corey Vorthmann.
The Academy facilities are being expanded, thanks to a generous donation from local community leader, Dr. Behrouz Rassekh.
“This will allow our students to learn from those who are in the industry,” said Superintendent Dr. Vickie Murillo. “This is going to create internship opportunities, job shadowing opportunities, and summer jobs like our students have never seen before.”
The TradeWorks Academy aligns with the district's vision of having students graduate with a high school diploma and a college degree or certificate.
TradeWorks Academy has been granted certification by the National Center for Construction Education and Research, and has been named an official training program by the Associated Builders & Contractors, Cornhusker Chapter.
